Dr. Tony Lee III

Dr. Tony Lee is an accomplished higher education leader, currently serving as the Associate Vice Chancellor of Public Affairs for the State University System of Florida (SUS) and the Florida Board of Governors. In this capacity, Dr. Lee oversees strategic communications, external relations, and government relations, contributing to Florida’s distinction as the leading state for higher education.

Dr. Lee’s strategic leadership has driven key initiatives that have advanced the mission and impact of the SUS. Notable achievements include securing increased funding for the system, launching the strategic plan “SUS 30,” organizing the inaugural SUS Fly-In in Washington, D.C., and conducting engagement visits across all 12 universities. His advocacy has been instrumental in shaping higher education policy through collaboration with legislative stakeholders.

Previously, Dr. Lee served as the Director of University Relations at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). Over his nine-year tenure, he was dedicated to strengthening the university’s community partnerships, enhancing alumni engagement, and advancing institutional outreach. In addition to his administrative role, Dr. Lee contributed to academic life as an adjunct professor in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Lee’s commitment to leadership and service extends beyond his professional responsibilities. He currently serves as Vice Chair and Chair-Elect of the Florida State University (FSU) National Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is an active member of Leadership Florida and has served as regional chair and on the selection committee. Dr. Lee is also an advocate for early learning and serves as an advisory member of the Florida Early Learning Corps.

While residing in Southwest Florida, he actively participated in local governance, including service on the City of Bonita Springs Citizen Board and Outreach Committee. His exemplary service and leadership have been recognized through numerous honors, including the FGCU Greek Advisor and KA National Advisor of the Year awards, Gulfshore Business’s “40 Under 40” distinction, the Bonita Springs Pat Lord Service Award, and designation as an Honorary Commander at MacDill Air Force Base.

Dr. Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Florida State University, a Master of Science in Global and Strategic Communications from Florida International University, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Miami.
